Santa Fe Secondary School administrators are Co-Directors Avery Kerr and Dana Rodda. The Administration of SFSS is responsible for both day-to-day and long-range implementation of the school mission. Both Avery and Dana are involved with various community service projects.
Avery graduated from Hanover College with a B.A. in English / Secondary Education. In Santa Fe, Avery first taught at Neighborhood Youth Corps, a federally funded G.E.D. program for teenagers whose income was necessary for family survival. At Santa Fe High she taught multi-level electives such as Speech and Contemporary American Thought, in addition to English. Her M.A. is in Liberal Arts from St. John’s Graduate Institute. At SFSS Avery teaches English, Latin and Language Arts. She also offers college counseling and assists with electives.
Dana graduated from Virginia Polytechnic and State University with a B.A. in Secondary Science Education. Her student teaching experience in rural public school led to a position at a small private school in Santa Fe. Dana then moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she worked as a secondary science substitute, until hired to investigate a controversial communication technique used with autistic children. She returned to Santa Fe to teach math and science in a multi-graded classroom. In 1993, at the request of parents, she began a small class. This class eventually grew into Ad Astra High School, and, in 1994, became Santa Fe Secondary School. At SFSS Dana teaches all levels of mathematics and science and also directs Santa Fe’s only Kumon Math and Reading Center.
